You can print it by going to the file menu on your browser bar and choose "Print" or press "Ctrl P". If you have difficulty reading this version you can download the attachment which is in "Word" format.

Your comments are always welcome - email to: admin@owa.org.uk

LEAGUE ROUND UP

The First XI are in second place, 17 points behind the leaders and 13 points (one win) clear of third. A promotion qualifying place is in their own hands. Winning the league looks a tougher prospect but is not beyond them. In a tight division, the Twos are in thirteenth spot although their overall results this year so far are a marked improvement on last. Another finish like last year (3 wins in the last four games) would see them end up in a highly creditable position. The threes moved back to the top of their table courtesy of a hard-fought win and leaders Chipstead & Coulsdon losing. With four games to go and Chipstead still to play not only promotion but the championship is in our hands. A big effort on all fronts guys and we could even see the superlative results of last season eclipsed. Come on lads !

Match Reports for games played Saturday August 3rd & Sunday August 4th
Saturday 1st XI

Ones lose concentration yet again !

Limpsfield 172 all out (45 overs) OWs 134 all out

After last week's decimation of Old Alleynians it appeared as though the Ones had put poor performances behind them and it was onward and upward to Surrey 2. However, it was to be another bad day at the office, with the Ones loosing yet another game that should have been in the bag before the first ball was bowled. Travers won toss and apart from young Nayak showing the rest of the bowlers how to bowl (4-41 off 14) the game was short of additional highlights. Limpsfield's innings of 172 all-out off 45, came as wickets fell relatively consistently, but too many four balls were bowled. The chase started sensibly and all looked promising when OW's reached 66 for no wicket with Moore on 43. Ten runs later, however, the Ones were 7 down and much work was needed to pull this one off. There was nothing spectacular about Limpsfield's bowling, but poor shot selection and a couple of dubious umpiring decisions left skipper Travers (33 n.o.) coming in at No 7 and in the familiar position of having to try to rescue events. It was not to be as he lost his last partner, Nayak, to one of those dubious decisions, 40 runs short of the target.

Saturday 2nd XI

Twos score winning draw

Limpsfield 192-7 dec. (46 ovs) OWs 152-6 (33 ovs)

What started poorly became a very controlled batting performance to give us a winning draw and 4 points. Under Fox, the stand-in ageing rock star skipper, Limpsfield were inserted and progressed slowly on a damp overcast day with the ball doing a bit. Best bowler was John Wheeler, who got plenty of movement both in the air and with his mouth, the latter of which needs to exercise the same control as his away swing. However we never really got control of their innings, despite some excellent off spin from James Goodwin some medium pace from Cezar Redeker and some useful tight overs from Shane. In the middle of all this it rained and we lost 50 minutes of play (which would have been more had the skipper not insisted the TV be switched off in order to get the players back out onto the pitch), not that Limpsfield took account of this as they batted until past 5 pm. Their last 5 overs contributed virtually nothing and only served to waste their time, leaving us 33 overs to get 193. Our innings started very well with a quick fire 38 from Pat ' Lap Dancer ' Wilkins, with several other players chipping in, notably 31 from Ian Orchison and some powerful drives from Cezar. With 10 overs to go we needed 70 for victory, but the departures of Orchison, Goodwin and Fernando (lbw without playing a shot) left it to Vincent and Dinesh to play calmly and sensibly to get us the winning draw. (Read that again, Dinesh played sensibly). So a good batting performance, 152 in 33 overs must help our confidence.

Saturday 3rd XI

Threes fall short in below par show : OWs 162 all out (52.2 ovs) Old Ruts 163-9 (48.3 ovs)

Order Saturday was the first time the fully paid up members of the 3rd eleven were able to use a home pitch, well it was only the 3rd August!! It proved to be a winning pitch even if it did go down to the penultimate over. Warlingham batted first after losing the toss and made a slow but steady start reaching 41 for 1 in 24 overs before the rain came down and held up play for 40 minutes. It was then decided that we needed a change of tactic as we didn't look like bowling them out and we needed to get a win to keep our chances of promotion alive. We went for bowling our overs as fast as possible to give ourselves an opportunity of reaching the target set. This began a marathon spell of bowling from Tyson 24-7-37-4 and Dave Oakley with his best spell for some time producing figures of 19-3-45-6 that had been backed up by all the fielders giving their best and keeping things tight. We bowled them out for 124 in 58 overs and had given ourselves the time to secure a win. We began well with Greg Michael 28 and Richard O'Brien putting on 41 before a change of bowling produced 3 wickets in 1 over. It then took 14 overs to score the next 20 runs and the required run rate kept going up. Mike White tried to get things moving with a quick fire 9, he was caught with the run rate now up at 6 an over. There was no need for the Skipper to fret as Dave Oakley took up the challenge and smashed 23. Richard O'Brien fell towards the end which allowed Paddy Devlin to chip and charge his way to 7 and secure victory with 9 balls to spare. The win gave us 13 points and took us to the top of the table as Chipstead lost. With 4 games to go the title is in our own hands, but their are 2 sides just 4 points behind, this could get interesting!

Sunday 1st XI

Tropical storm denies Sun Ones run blitz at Kew

OWs 99-2 (12 ovs) - Match abandoned due to rain.

A colourful Sunday Ones outfit were left to consider what might have been,as a torrential downpour halted a stampede from the OWs top order. Shane (8)and Dinesh (27) started things off before the first rain interruption with the score on 1-0 after 2 overs. With 35 minutes lost, the match was reduced to a 35 overs apiece thrash. 98 runs were added in the subsequent 10 overs. Shane being given LBW for the umpteenth time this season and Dinesh's excellent 27 before being snared by the keeper the two casualties. Colin Nicholson (37*) gladly maintained his late finding of form and Trevor Evans (15*) continued to destroy the Kew attack before a downpour that would have taken a few days to dry up stopped the game after 12 overs. Many thanks and apologies to those who gave up their day in vain.

Sunday 2nd XI
